Winston Pro 2 Tripod Review

Winston Pro 2 Tripod Range

The Winston Pro 2 Line Up.

As a landscape photographer, choosing the right tripod can make a big difference in capturing stunning images. With so many options available, it can be difficult to determine which tripod is best suited for your needs. I recently made a switch to the Winston Pro 2 from Three-Legged Thing, a British company, and I'm here to share my experience and insights about this tripod.

The main goal for me when purchasing this tripod was to save weight in my camera gear while also keeping the cost economical. The Winston Pro two with the L bracket from Three Legged Thing comes in just over two kilogrammes, which is a whole kilo lighter than the Manfrotto tripod I was using previously. This may not sound like a lot, but when you're walking a reasonable distance with your gear, every kilo saved makes a big difference. The tripod is also very stable, offering a good balance between maximum height and portability in terms of weight.

The Air Head Pro and L Bracket is a great combination

Ease of use was also an important consideration for me. When you're out in the field, the last thing you want is to struggle with difficult-to-use clamps and brackets, and fidgeting with multiple controls. The Winston Pro 2 with the Air-head Pro ball head has a quick-release platform and simple knobs and dials, making it very easy to use even in challenging conditions. I opted for a ball head rather than a three-way pan and tilt head, as the latter was difficult to use for me, especially given the arthritis in my fingers. The ball head can be adjusted with just one turn of the knob, making it more user-friendly. The twist locks on the legs are large and chunky, making it easy to adjust

However, I do have a few reservations about the Winston Pro 2, though they are small and may not turn out to be a problem. I might need to change the way I work slightly and get used to the switch from my previous tripod. Nonetheless, after using the Winston Pro 2 for several months, I can say that it has worked out well for me and I plan on using it more and more for my still photography. It ticks all the boxes for me in terms of weight, stability, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness.

In conclusion, I highly recommend the Winston Pro 2 from Three-Legged Thing for landscape photographers looking for a lightweight, stable, and user-friendly tripod. The £400 price tag is reasonable for the quality and performance that you get in return. Whether you're a seasoned photographer or just starting, the Winston Pro 2 is a great investment that will enhance your photography and help you capture stunning images.
